Primary school children hunt minibeasts and make charcoal over the campfire
More than 200 Seaton Primary School pupils enjoyed a day out exploring The Wetlands recently.
As the nature reserve is so close to the school, the children were able to walk to the Natural Seaton schools’ event which was organised by the East Devon District Council Countryside team and Devon Wildlife Trust at Seaton Jurassic.
They explored the area and enjoyed activities such as a tree trail, minibeast hunting, bird watching, mini raft making and making charcoal over the campfire.
They also visited the newly opened Seaton Jurassic.
EDDC education ranger, Penny Evans said: ‘’Natural Seaton is a fantastic initiative which aims to encourage children to discover their local outdoor environment.
“Many of the children are so enthused by the day that they encourage their parents to come back and visit the site at the weekend where they can hire pond dipping equipment, walk between the bird-hides and enjoy picnics and bike rides.
“The benefits of learning outdoors extend much further than the day’s activities.’’
