Archant

It was smiles all round at The Axe Valley Community College textile department as pupils and staff have been going back in time.

The order of the day is 1920s style and they have been busy collecting generous donations from local drama companies, theatres and charity shops.

Parents have joined in too as the drama pupils look forward to putting on a production of Bugsy Malone.

As the opening night draws ever closer, pupils have attended workshops introducing them to the art of making headdresses with more than a few peacock feathers on show.

A spokesman for the school said: “Fringing has been sewn on, trousers altered, jackets restyled ready for the big event, let’s hope not too many end up being ‘splurged!’”

The show opened last night and it runs until Friday, July 10. Tickets are on sale at the school reception.
