Rotary Club is handing out dictionaries to help Year Six pupils with their learning

Pupils at All Saints Primary in Axminster were surprised, but certainly not lost for words, when they were presented with free dictionaries.

They were given to the year six children by the Rotary Club of Axminster, which is donating 130 to primary schools.

The headteacher of All Saints, Rob Giffard, said: “The year six pupils were completely taken by surprise when the Rotary Club of Axminster handed out these fantastic illustrated dictionaries, to keep and support them with their learning.”

The club secretary, Barrie Castle, said: “Education and promoting literacy is a major objective for Rotary. This national project enables year six pupils to be given dictionaries which are personalised and they can keep for life. Over the next few weeks, the Rotary Club of Axminster are really pleased at this opportunity to help the young in our community.”

Dictionaries will also be given to pupils at Shute, Axminster Community Primary, Hawkchurch, Kilmington, Membury, St Andrew’s, Chardstock and St Mary’s, Axminster.
