Plenty to shout about as Seaton Town Crier sends Fluffy down the line
The latest addition to Seaton Tramway’s fleet went purring along the track on Monday.
Fluffy, double decker number 12, is flying the flag for the Cats Protection charity after being repainted in the London Metropolitan livery.
The Bank Holiday launch was performed by Seaton Town Crier David Craner, and Jessy Barrington, from the animal charity, dressed in a cat suit to cut the ribbon.
Cats Protection events co-ordinator, Sheila Down, said she the new tram would help raise awareness for the hundreds of cats and kittens that need re-homing in the area each year.
A series of fundraising event were staged to mark the launch and
cat-themed refreshments were available in the Tramstop Café in Colyton, along with “Dizzy Dimples” face painting and lots of feline fancy-dress.
*Tram 12 dates from 1966 when it was built as a single decker at Eastbourne. It was re-gauged on coming to Seaton in 1971 and then rebuilt as a double decker with open top deck in 1980. Finally it was restyled in 1999 by the addition of a Feltham style driver’s cab and repainted in London Transport livery.
Tram 12 was also distinctively decorated in 70’s psychedelia in 2010 to mark Seaton Tramway’s 40th anniversary of operating at Seaton.
Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity, rescuing, rehoming and reuniting 46,000 cats and kittens every year, through a network of over 250 voluntary-run branches, 29 adoption centres and two homing centres.
