Swollen river see records tumble during pre-school’s annual competition
A river swollen by recent heavy rain saw competitors set off at a quacking pace for the annual duck race at Kilmington on Wednesday.
In fact, the water was so fast flowing record times were recorded for the journey from the Jubilee Green to the bridge, near Hurford’s Stores.
Luckily, the rain held off until the end of the contest, when the spectators moved on to the village hall to enjoy tea and cakes.
The event raised nearly 400 towards a new outdoor shed to house the pre-school’s toys, which have to be packed away every day as the group meets in the village hall.
