HONITON was "very quiet" over the Christmas period, crime-wise.

That's what Neighbourhood Beat Manager PC Ian Atyeo told Honiton Town Council's January meeting.

"New Year's Eve, in the past, has been fairly hectic," he said.

"But, this time, we dealt with two minor incidents. I put it down to the cold weather, combined with the credit crunch."

Of the two incidents dealt with by police, one involved two friends.

"They had been out drinking together all evening and fell out on the way home!" said PC Atyeo.
