Readers want EDDC to cut staff pay

That was the overriding view of Midweek Herald readers, who took part in our phone-in on the subject of council cutbacks.

Readers also asked that the authority considers closing its final salary pension scheme.

And they criticised the council for not increasing council tax last year.

Tony Badcott, of Ottery St Mary, said: "Most, if not all, of these spending problems were created because, for political reasons, the council did not increase council tax last year.

"Many said it would store up problems and, hey presto, we were right!
