Recipe book raises £300 at launch

THE launch of a new cookbook, supported by celebrity chef Rick Stein, was heralded by town crier Dave Retter in Honiton last Saturday.

THE launch of a new cookbook, supported by celebrity chef Rick Stein, was heralded by town crier Dave Retter in Honiton last Saturday.The book of recipes, compiled by enthusiastic supporters of Honiton Community College, aims to raise cash and highlight the work of the college's parents, staff and friends' association.The cookbook launch was the second high profile event to be staged by the group in just a few weeks.Folk-rock band Sweet Black Angels fronted a fundraising concert a Honiton Motel recently.College principal Norman Tyson and ardent supporter of the youth in Honiton Alan Rowe MBE were at WH Smith in the High Street to witness the book launch.Town crier Dave Retter lent his voice to the occasion.Karen Young, of the parents, staff and friends' association, said afterwards: "The successful launch raised around £300, which will be used to support students at the college."Thanks to everyone who supported the event."Copies of the £5 book, which includes recipes from celebrity chefs and local restaurants, are available by calling (01404) 42735.
