Members of Honiton Round Table have thanked the community for their generosity after its Santa float raised a record amount of money.

In total, £1,373.15 was donated by residents as Santa made his way around various streets in Honiton to spread some festive cheer.

Honiton Tesco also helped the float by supplying chocolates and Perrie Hale Nursery donated the Christmas trees.

A spokesman for the Round Table said: “We are always amazed by the generosity of people, especially those who slip £20 notes into the collection tins or have no children but still come out in the rain to cheer on the men who come out every year.

“We are so proud of all of them.

“This year was particularly wet but every Wednesday and Sunday they were out spreading joy to the children of Honiton.

“I know people of Dunkeswell and Feniton were disappointed that Santa did not make it this year but to change that, the Round Table needs more members.”

Also donated was one washer, one trolley coin, five Rand, $27, €17, 10 cents from New Zealand, 10 cents from Barbados and a toy coin with ‘Melilla’ printed on it.
