Countdown to Christmas begins...

The community came together in Honiton last Friday to mark the town’s official start to the festive season.

Parents and primary school children joined Honiton Band in St Paul’s Church for an early evening carol service, organised by Honiton and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Free mince pies, supplied by local resident Dave Lewis, were then shared before the Mayor of Honiton, Councillor Vernon Whitlock, assisted by town crier Dave Retter, switched on lights to the town’s Christmas tree.

A big cheer went up when the lights illuminated the forecourt of St Paul’s Church, draped around a spectacular, big tree.

A record number of people then headed for the Mackarness Hall, where business leaders had organised a Christmas fair which was well-supported by local groups.

Santa had his own grotto in the hall - all colourfully prepared for him by Honiton Town Council.

Cakes and bargains ruled the roost as a flood of families came through the door and enjoyed a really festive time in the town centre.
