Walkers will be able to take part in the Gittisham Amble to raise funds for Hospiscare
A sponsored walk through Gittisham will take place this weekend in memory of a former patient of Hospiscare’s Honiton-based day centre.
Honition supports of the charity are organising the six-mile walk which will start from the village hall in the heart of Gittisham and end back there, where walkers will enjoy a well-earned hot drink and tasty bacon bap.
The ‘Gittisham Amble’ is not taxing and will mainly follow back lanes and footpaths, by-ways and bridle ways.
Organiser Kevin Chown said: “I’ve become a massive supporter of Hospiscare since they looked after my dad, Reg.
“I want to give back to them the same amazing support they gave to me and my family when we needed it most.
“I came up with the idea of the Gittisham Amble to raise the vital funds that Hospiscare needs so they can continue providing care and support to other local patients and families when they need it most, too.”
Reg, who lived in Gittisham, was cared for close to home, at Kings House day hospice in Honiton, until he died in May last year.
Kevin added: “Dad looked forward to his visits to the day hospice and he really enjoyed the activities – one favourite was when the birds of prey came to visit! Kings House gave him a social outlet and he was also able to have a bath or shower there – it was awkward to do at home
“Dad’s days at Kings House gave mum a bit of a break too.”
The Gittisham Amble promises to be a fun, friendly morning’s ramble as well as a great way to raise sponsorship funds for Hospiscare.
Dogs are very welcome to come along, too, but must be accompanied by a human.
The Amble will start at 10 am on Sunday, 10 June.
Entry and sponsorship forms can be found online at www.hospiscare.co.uk/events/gittishamamble or by calling Hospiscare on 01392 688020.
The cost of entry is £10 per adult and £5 per child (under 16), or £25 for a family of two adults and two children.
