A VILLAGE banded together to mark the 100th birthday of a remarkable woman.
Jill Bennett, former owner of the Fairwater Head Hotel, is 100 tomorrow (Thursday).
However, celebrations started at the weekend when residents in Hawkchurch held a party in the village hall.
The event followed a special service at St John the Baptist Church, Hawkchurch, where Mrs Bennett is a reader and sidesman.
In fact, Mrs Bennett read the lesson at the service.
She was presented with an exquisite kneeler, made by Neil and Jean Ransford.

Mrs Ransford also made a celebration cake, which Mrs Bennett cut during the party.
In spite of her advanced years, widowed Mrs Bennett is a real live wire in Hawkchurch. Her catchphrase is: "What fun!"
She still drives and is loved and respected by everybody in the village.
Further celebrations are planned for today and at the weekend.
