AN iconic part of East Devon's industrial past will be marked in Whimple next month when former Whiteways staff get together for a reunion.

AN iconic part of East Devon's industrial past will be marked in Whimple next month when former Whiteways staff get together for a reunion.Anyone who ever worked at the cider factory, famous for its Cidrax and Peardrax brands, as well as Rougemont Castle wine, is invited to attend the day-long event, taking place at the village cricket club and Whimple Heritage Centre.Whiteways cider orchards were a prominent feature of the landscape in and around Whimple. Few local residents have forgotten the huge Whiteways' signs that stood among the trees.The reunion is being staged to mark the 20th anniversary of the factory's closure.Taking place from 11am to 6pm on June 28, the event will include an exhibition and give former Whiteways' employees a chance to record their memories.A specially made cider and commemorative beer will be served during the day, along with food.Organisers would like to hear from those who will be attending to determine catering numbers and to send them a questionnaire, which will assist the heritage centre with its research and records on cider making in the village.For further information call either Bernie Little on (01404) 47305, Chris Webster on (01884) 277454 or Nick Pring on (01392) 367967.
