Renal unit on course to open

STAFF are being recruited for a new eight-station renal dialysis unit, currently being developed at Honiton Community Hospital.

STAFF are being recruited for a new eight-station renal dialysis unit, currently being developed at Honiton Community Hospital.The £1.4 million project is on time and on budget, Devon Primary Care Trust has revealed."We are delighted the renal dialysis unit will open on time and on budget," said hospital manager Les Hickman."It will provide a really valuable service for people in East Devon and the surrounding rural area, who at the moment are having to travel to Exeter."It is testimony to a well worked partnership between Devon PCT, the acute trust and the technical staff who worked so hard on this project."We are looking forward to the commissioning of the building in mid-summer."Dr Lucy Smyth, renal consultant at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, said: "We are delighted the project has run so smoothly."We are currently recruiting staff, and looking forward to opening as planned this summer."The new unit will be of great benefit to renal patients in East Devon."Around 30 current patients will benefit from quicker access when the unit opens.
