HOUSING cheats should be targeted by East Devon District Council - to free up homes for those genuinely in need. That's the view of Herald readers, who contacted us last week to express sympathy for workers Stacey Pincombe and Mark Chivers who, with their nine-week-old baby, are living in a caravan on Stacey's mum's drive, in Streamers Meadows, Honiton. The couple cannot afford to privately rent a home in the town and are not yet a priority for local authority housing - evening though they've been on East Devon District Council's list for over two years. There is a severe shortage of affordable housing in East Devon and beyond, but some people are abusing the system.Disgusted readers have supplied the Herald with a list of people who are not permanently living in their council homes. One complainant explained how a woman, with a two-bedroom bungalow, is sleeping at her lover's home three miles away every night of the week.
