A Honiton butcher has seen an uptake in demand for his plain pork sausages after they were praised by a celebrity chef.
Laurie Spencer, of Porkies the Family Butchers in New Street said he was surprised - but ‘chuffed to bits’ - after Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall mentioned his bangers in his Devon guide, penned in the Daily Telegraph.
Laurie, who clinched a third-place award for his traditional plain pork sausages at British Sausage Week 2016, said: “I’m really pleased.
“I’ve only met Hugh once – when he came into the shop to buy charcoal. In the end, he left with some other bits.”
Laurie says since the article was published, more people have come into his shop to buy his sausages – including a couple from Taunton who made the trip specially.
He added: “I noticed I had been mentioned on the same day I received a five-star rating from the Environmental Health Agency, so it made it even better.”
