Royal British Legion officials say new Minster Green seats are already being well used

GENEROUS Axminster residents have raised over £1,000 to provide three public seats for the Minster Green.

The project to buy them was launched three years ago and has been co-ordinated by the town’s Royal British Legion branch.

Today (Thursday) officials said they were delighted with the arrival of the much-needed benches which are already being well used.

Legion member Yvonne Taylor told The Herald said they were made entirely of recycled plastic and were tough and hard wearing. They replaced three worn-out benches that had long disappeared from the Green and which were greatly missed.

“It is nice to get them back again,” she added.

Standard bearer Alan Brown praised local residents for coming up with the cash.

“We want to thank the generous people of Axminster,” he said

President John Glanvill-Smith added: “We are absolutely delighted with the chairs which are being well used every day.”

Axminster RBL members begin their Poppy Appeal collections on October 29.

They will have fund raising stalls outside Tesco from November 3-6 inclusive and the Co-op supermarket in West Street from November 9-12 inclusive.
