Students from Honiton Community get busy restoring a classic car to its former glory.

Students from Honiton Community College have been getting their hands dirty to restore a classic car to its former glory.

Progress to restore the MGB GT has been slow to date but students have been making big progress in the last few weeks and have nearly stripped the car.

Eight pupils have been working alongside several specialists Mike Dalby, Richard Wood and Dennis Hobbs from Crash Box and the Classic Car Club, who are supporting the college with the project both financially and practically.

The Classic Car Club has even given pupils the opportunity to attend it’s annual historic vehicle gathering at Powderham in July as honorary marshals.

The college hopes the students will be able to take the MG car with them to display their progress.

Pupils have already been given the opportunity to look at a range of cars that have already been restored including a Sunbeam Alpine, an MGA and a Triumph TRD before starting work with volunteer mechanic Mr Hobbs and the college’s parent governor Julian Phillips.

They also had support from STEM ambassador Peter Shrubsall.

They are currently drawing up a list of parts needed and will start stripping the paint work ready for painting and respraying.

Anyone who can help with the project is urged to email Mr Erskine, the head of technology, on jerskine@honitoncollege.devon.sch.uk or call 01404 44491.
