Honiton Community College students showcase their talents at a creative arts evening.

THE rising stars of Honiton Community College were shining when they showcased their talents during a celebration of the creative arts.

An exhibition evening, which took place last Wednesday (June 29), gave GCSE and A Level students the opportunity to display their work in front of members of the community in disciplines including art, photography, music and drama.

There was also live music from rock band The Incorrect and a preview of the college’s forthcoming production of Les Miserables.

Head of creative arts Nick Dormand said: “It is very important for the students to be able to showcase their work, because this is the culmination of two years’ work and to see it all come together is fantastic.

“The exhibition is a celebration and recognises the hard work the students have put in.

“It also gives the community an opportunity to share the students work.”

He added: “There is imaginative talent in Honiton and it is important to recognise how talented our students are.”

GCSE photography student Lewis Gillingham, who had his photographs on display, said: “It is nice to have feedback from people, rather than it just being stuck in a book.

“It is art and it is meant to be on display.”

A steady stream of people attended the open event, including parents and the college’s governors.

The exhibition is a first for the college, combining all the creative arts disciplines into one event.

Art teacher Jenny Habbal, who helped put the display together, said: “The exhibition is a good opportunity for the community to come into the college and see the students’ work.

“It helps build good links between the college and the local community.

“It is vital, when students put so much work in to their projects, to display and celebrate it.”
