AMBITIOUS plans to significantly upgrade community facilities at a Honiton church have attracted a sell-out response for a fund-raising event, taking place next weekend.At a time when the plans' appeal target is still £32,000 short, church member Rita Bennett is doing her bit to boost donations.On Saturday (April1 2), she will host a tabletop sale in the Mackarness Hall. Every table has already been taken and Mrs Bennett is now praying for a good turnout of buyers.The sale will be open to buyers from 9.30am to 12.30pm.Refurbishment plans, which have been submitted to East Devon District Council, include a new access for the disabled, an extended kitchen, level access between the church and meeting room, and other internal improvements.Recent grants towards the work total £5,000 and further cash is rolling in - thanks to a successful monthly quiz.Honiton Methodist Church is situated in Chapel Street, off New Street. It is a popular meeting place for community organisations, including Sound Out, a self-help group for the hard of hearing.
