All are welcome to the service on Sunday.

The annual Blessing of the Boats service in Lyme Regis is being held this Sunday at the RNLI lifeboat station.

All are welcome to take part in the inter-denominational service, which starts at 3pm, and organisers are keeping their fingers crossed there is no repeat of last year’s minor interruption.

The 2012 service was delayed when the lifeboat crew were called out to rescue four people in a broken down powerboat, just ten minutes before the event was due to start.

The traditional service brings together Lyme Regis church leaders, with a welcome from the vicar, the Reverend Jane Skinner.

Lyme Regis town band will provide the music, and mayor Sally Holman, accompanied by town councillors, will read the lesson, with around 300 people expected at the open air service.

This year lifeboat crew members will lay wreaths in the water representing the RNLI, fishermen, and the Royal and Merchant navies, with the Royal British Legion also presenting a wreath.
