IF East Devon District Council approves Aldi's bid for a store in Honiton, road improvement measures should be included as a planning condition. That's what town councillors agreed last week. They fear a repeat of a demand for cash instead, which left a Honiton charity £10,000 out of pocket and Kings Road minus a promised pedestrian crossing. Devon County Council was given the cash by SeeAbility before the charity had even laid the foundation stone at its pioneering Windmill Court development. Years after handing over the cash, which was to be put towards the provision of a crossing facility, nothing has been done to aid walkers in the area. The problem has been finding the remainder of the cash towards the scheme. Councillors are hopeful a facility will be installed in neighbouring Monkton Road in the near future.
