Why has Honiton Town Council increased council tax?
Taxpayers, the Prime Minister and the Chancellor have both announced the blocking of council tax rises this year - to give some relief to hard-pressed taxpayers suffering cost of living rises.
So what does Honiton Town Council do? They increased their part of the council tax. When challenged about this, the explanation given was that they thought taxpayers would not mind as, otherwise, some local charities would suffer!
I understand from the government that any cutbacks should be made within the council expenditure.
Honiton Town Council chose to ignore this and, as usual, increase council tax.
