Generous residents in Lyme Regis and Charmouth donate £750 to help those affected on the Somerset Levels

The Rotary Club of Lyme Regis raised £750 for the victims of the Somerset Levels flooding when they held collections in the town and at Charmouth.

Organisers said it was “a tremendous result” and expressed their gratitude to all who contributed.

Rotarian John McCallum assured them that: “One hundred per cent of these funds will be used to help with the cleanup effort and to meet needs where hardship and circumstances warrant specific aid. The distribution of these funds will be directed by Rotary.

“Rotarians have been active in the flooded area of the Somerset Levels these past few weeks. They have been working with and under the direction of the emergency services, bringing relief where they can - building flood barriers, laying gravel paths to provide easier access to remaining residents and funding the hire of diggers and dumper trucks, providing sandwiches to relief workers and distributing much needed groceries.

“This will continue in the weeks ahead. The funds collected in Lyme Regis and Charmouth will be used wisely and with discretion to help further this effort and assist in the cleanup operation.”
