Heart attack victim, 75, raises cash through sponsored swim.

THE welfare of veterans and their families has received a boost in Honiton - thanks to the keep fit regime of a heart attack victim.

Pensioner Dave Wigmore, 75, undertook a one-mile swim to raise cash for the welfare section of the Honiton branch of the Royal British Legion.

Cash was collected in tins at outlets around the town. Last week, Mr Wigmore teamed up with Eve Leaman, the branch’s welfare case worker, to empty the tins and count the donations. With a 10 donation received after the count, a grand total of 340 was raised.

A delighted Mr Wigmore, who ended up swimming almost two miles, said: “I would like to thank everybody who made a donation and all the staff at Honiton Sports Centre and Swimming Pool for their encouragement.”

The count took place at the Royal British Legion Club, in Dowell Street.
