'Royal' pie wins regional approval

A PIE developed for the royal palate has won Colyton Butchers the top prize in a regional competition.
A PIE developed for the royal palate has won Colyton Butchers the top prize in a regional competition.Anton Bolton's steak and ale pie was developed with the help of Branscombe Vale Brewery, to be presented to HRH the Duchess of Wessex, when she met wheelwright Mike Rowland.The pie, which contains only local hand-diced chuck steak and Branoc ale, won the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders' South West Pie and Pastry competition recently.Colyton Butchers also had five other entries, with four achieving gold and one getting silver.Anton said: "I am delighted to think this locally sourced pie got the top spot and may also have got royal approval.
