A Honiton youngster who sent a congratulatory card to Duke and Duchess of Cambridge was ‘very excited’ when she received a thank-you postcard back from the couple.

After hearing that the royal pair had welcomed Princess Charlotte into the world, seven-year-old Gracie Marks sent a card to the royal palace, congratulating them both.

She was hopeful for a reply, and four weeks later, a card was dropped through her door, direct from Buckingham Palace.

William and Kate thanked Gracie for her card and said they were ‘most touched’ she took the trouble to write as she did. They added that they were extremely grateful for all of the ‘wonderful messages’ they had received.

Gracie said she was felt ‘excited’ when she saw the card was from the royals.

Her mum, Emma, also wrote a thank-you card as a six-year-old to Princess Anne when she gave to birth to Peter in 1977.

She added: “I told her this story and she was so excited, she wanted to do the same thing.”
