EAST Devon District Council has no knowledge of a rumour that Sainsbury's could put in a bid to build a supermarket on stilts in Seaton, a spokesman has told the Herald.Information, given to the Herald by a confidential source, suggests the store is proposing an ambitious development on council-owned land in the resort.Any bid for a new supermarket would be up against a rival bid, expected to be tendered by Tesco. The Herald understands that Sainsbury's is proposing a store on stilts, with parking underneath and provision for Seaton Tramway. But a council spokesman said yesterday (Tuesday): "We are aware of Sainbury's interest in a commercial development at Seaton and we have held talks with them, prior to the possible submission of a planning application at some stage in the future."The details of any pre-application discussions would be confidential, but we can confirm that the suggestions made by your informant have not been mooted to us.
