AN AXMINSTER town councillor has slammed the county council for failing to provide enough road grit.

Cllr Douglas Hull claims too many salt boxes are empty in the town and is launching a 'bin watch.'

Cllr Hull, who is also an East Devon District Councillor, said: "It's shambolic when people go to get salt in this weather and find the bins are empty - or full up with rubbish. "It's absolutely disgusting that people should be left in the lurch."

He has called for a better system, with salt being readily available throughout the year.

He said people who are short of salt can call him on (01297) 33522. Alternatively they can contact DCC on 0845 155 1004, or the Highways Agency on 01392 385080.
