The Jubilee gardens and play area in Beer are getting a makeover thanks to enthusiastic volunteers in the village.
Ursula Makepeace, president of Beer Horticultural Society, said the group had taken on the challenge of reviving the seafront public space.
“It was in a shocking state, not just in a state of decline, and it needed desperately regenerating. We thought it would be a very exciting project so we decided to take it on at the end of last year. It’s our big project for this year,” she said.
Three large containers will be filled with insect and bat friendly herbs like thyme, lavender, rosemary and fennel.
There is a lot of work to do, so the group are appealing for more help with clearing, planting and watering.
“In order to achieve our objectives we need more volunteers to help us to look after the bedding plants after they have been planted,” she said.
