IDEAS on the possible location of a small number of pitches for gypsies and travellers should come from the community - that's the thinking behind a six-week consultation exercise starting next week in East Devon, which will aim to identify provision until 2026. This will be the first in a series of such consultations before locations are chosen.EDDC, like other councils nationwide, has an obligation from the Government to provide the right number and the right type of facilities for people "of nomadic habit of life, whatever their race or origin".A report on the need for extra facilities throughout Devon indicated that East Devon should provide an extra nine pitches by 2011.
