Standards high but entries down

ALTHOUGH entries were down by nearly a quarter at Seaton carnival procession on Saturday, organisers say the superb standard more than made up for it.

In fact, committee chairman June Millman said judges were sorry they could not present prizes to everyone.

Despite numbers being down from 52 in 2010 to 44 there were some splendid entries in the colourful line up, with Sidvale Carnival Club taking the prize for best overall float with its Yee Ha tableau.

The only blight on a splendid evening was some anger over road closures.

Said Mrs Millman: “It is a real hot potato, although trying to run over a marshal’s foot because Trevellyan Road was closed is probably not the way to go.

“Those that did complain can be assured that the carnival committee and the police will be looking into ways to sort the problem.

“The carnival parade is only once a year and brings in visitors and spectators to our beautiful town, who stay and spend money and go home happy.

“There were a great many spectators watching the parade and I am sure all the traders that stayed open during the night were happy with the results.”

“Seaton Carnival has been going for 45 years and we would like to thank everyone who has had anything to do with the organising of the week’s events. We are very grateful.”
