Groups and individuals benefit from another successful fund raising year

Seaton and District Lions Club has given more than �3,000 to help worthy causes.

President Dennis Morgan presented cheques to organisations and individuals at a ceremony last week.

He told recipients: “We love to give money to our ‘working patch’ and support as much as we can. We are pleased to support such a number of local organisations and groups, however big or small the cause.”

Sharing �3,050 were:

* Seaton Football Club for investment into its youth division.

* Whizz Kids, a national charity with local connections, towards provision of specialist mobility equipment.

* Seaton Mothers’ Union for its ongoing work to provide knitted squares for Zambian children to create their own colourful blankets,

* Seaton and District Club for the Visually Impaired for a special tea and outing to Colyton Methodist Church in August.

* The West of England School for the Blind and Partially Sighted towards the cost of a new minibus to take children out on a more regular basis,

In addition, Mary Kellam received a donation to support her trip to Zimbabwe, with African Impact. She will assist at a medical clinics and orphanages supporting HIV and AIDS education as well as wildlife work associated with lion conservation.

And Angie Baldwin was given help to purchase specialist video magnifier equipment to assist the partially sighted with reading.

Seaton Majorettes also received a donation towards their new “ice outfits” to be shown at the Seaton illuminated carnival.

Seaton Lions’ ladies also helped local causes during the year. Hilda Morgan said they had supported Macmillan Nurses, Seaton in Bloom and a donation was also made to Seaton’s Voice towards the town hall lighting.
