Lifeboat went to the aid of the 14ft vessel after it suffered engine failure off Axmouth
Two Seaton men became the first to be rescued by the new Lyme Regis lifeboat yesterday morning (Sunday April 22) when their speedboat broke down on its maiden voyage.
The crew of the Loch Fyne were on a training exercise when they received a call for help after the 14ft speedboat’s engine failed, off Haven Cliffs, near Axmouth.
The two men, Richard Pearce, aged 60, and his son Tom, 25, of Meadow Road, said they had owned the boat for only a week and were on their first trip when the engine failed.
The speedboat was towed by the lifeboat to Lyme Regis harbour where the casualties, cold but unharmed, were helped ashore by local coastguard rescue officers who gave safety advice.
