THE new police sergeant at Seaton has highlighted issues to be tackled in the town.

Richard Stonecliffe, 39, transferred to the station from police headquarters last month.

He said residents' concerns, as shown from Police and Communities Together (PACT), included speeding, low level anti-social behaviour and dog fouling.

He said: "These are the issues that have been raised by the community."

Sgt Stonecliffe, who has worked in the force for 17 years, said he was here to stay and his move was not a 'stepping stone'.

He made the point during the recent monthly council meeting, when he introduced himself to councillors.

He told the Herald: "I think there's a lot to get my teeth into here. I'm interested in working with the public and the council to resolve their issues.

"We will be carrying out further consultations with the community to assess if there are any other issues or priorities they want us to address."

The father of two, who has acted as an officer in Luton and a community sergeant in Mid Bedfordshire, added: "I think I have taken on an excellent and enthusiastic team and I have been welcomed by everybody in the community that I have met so far."

He recently moved to East Devon and said he is enjoying living in the area.

He said: "I think it's a lovely part of the country and a great place to live."

Seaton police are setting up Community Messaging in the area and registration will take place at the Co-op on Thursday, November 26. The service is free and gives information about crime in the neighbourhood.

To find out more or to sign up, visit the Co-op between 10am and 1pm.
