Philip Higginson forced to give up his temporary council post for health reasons

SEATON’S stand-in town clerk has resigned for health reasons.

Philip Higginson, stood down from his town hall post, after revealing he is to undergo a heart bypass operation.

He took over as temporary town clerk after the council suspended David Mears, in February, pending an investigation - the details of which were never revealed.

Mr Mears subsequently resigned from his post, which has now been advertised.

Mr Higginson told The Herald he was confident a full time replacement would be found by September.

In the meantime he said he had no choice but to stand down ahead of his hospital admission.

He said the current office staff, under manager Marie Prideaux, would keep the ship afloat while his successor was sought.
