SEATON Town Council is closer to getting quality council status due to improvements and a newly qualified clerk.

Mayor Sandra Semple on Monday congratulated David Mears for gaining his Certificate in Local Council Administration.

She said: "David's qualification and the changes and improvements we have made over the last two years means that we are now very close to getting Quality Council status and anticipate achieving it very soon - again there are only 30 of those in the whole of Devon."

Mr Mears was presented with an inscribed frame for his certificate.
