Memorial Day event at Seaton Library helped create awareness and positive hopes for the future

Young people gathered at Seaton Library to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day at a moving event.

Members of the teenage drop-in group made an art piece especially and gave readings from survivors’ life experiences and poetry.

They also showed videos about this year’s theme which is ‘The Power of Words’ and at the end of the session they each wrote down on paper: ‘We Remember’.

The also added to the art piece by writing on tear and dove-shaped card wishes and remembrances.

A spokeswoman for the library said: “It was a very moving event which helped to create awareness and positive hopes for the future.”

On Holocaust Memorial Day, January 27, people remember the millions killed in the Holocaust, and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. The date also marks the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
