SECURITY guards have been posted to a field in Membury, near Axminster, to protect a Merlin helicopter which made an emergency landing yesterday (Tuesday).

SECURITY guards have been posted to a field in Membury, near Axminster, to protect a Merlin helicopter which made an emergency landing yesterday (Tuesday).

Manufacturer Augusta Westland, based in Yeovil, has notified Devon and Cornwall Constabulary that two security guards have been sent to the site.

Meanwhile, the helicopter is undergoing further inspections today (Wednesday) - to see if it can be repaired and flown back to base.

A police spokesman said it was not yet known when or how the helicopter would be moved.
