No more chances for Honiton drug addict James Trower.

There were no more chances for a serial offender from Honiton when he faced magistrates this afternoon (Monday).

James Collingwood David Trower, of Marwood Place, was sentenced to a total of 36 weeks in prison when he appeared at North and East Devon Magistrates’ Court in Exeter.

The 32-year-old was convicted in his absence, at a previous hearing, of stealing a Panasonic Viera TV, valued at 279.99, from the Co-operative in Lace Walk on March 16.

He also admitted failing to surrender to the court after being released on bail and failing to comply with the requirements of a community order.

The chairman of the bench, Hilary Drew, told the defendant she had never seen such a bad report from the probation service.

She said: “You have been given chances in the past and never taken them up.

“We find these offences so serious only a custodial sentence will suffice.”

There was no order for costs or compensation.

Victims were so fed up with Trower evading jail, they attempted to find out when he was next in court - to turn up.

For the theft of the television he was given eight weeks in custody and for the breach of his community order was re-sentenced to a total of 28 weeks in prison, which will run consecutively.

For failing to surrender to the court he was given two weeks to run concurrently.

There was no order for costs or compensation.

Previous victims were so fed up with Trower evading jail, the individuals attempted to find out when he was next in court - saying they wanted to deal with him themselves.
