Police closed the road at Hunters Lodge crossroads, near Axminster, following collision.

Police and emergency services were called to a serious road traffic collision on the A35 near Axminster yesterday evening (Wednesday July 10).

The collision between a van and a car happened at the notorious Hunters Lodge crossroads at 4.25pm.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended and the Devon Air Ambulance landed in the car park of the Hunters Lodge pub.

The A35 was closed, causing long tailbacks, and the B3165 at Uplyme was also shut.

The extent of any injuries to those involved is not yet known.

Hunters Lodge crossroads has been the scene of numerous serious accidents over the years and locals have campaigned for a roundabout but without success.
