Batty goings on in the cemetery.

COLYTON’S swinging nightlife has been put under the spotlight.

More than 40 nature watchers have been studying the amorous behaviour of bats.

As part of the “looking out for bats” initiative, they recently visited Colyton cemetery where improvements to the buildings have made them an important habitat for the night-time flyers.

Leader Dr Fiona Mathews said: “Autumn is an important time in the bat calendar as many species exhibit swarming behaviour. This is believed to be part of the mating cycle just prior to them returning to their winter hibernation spots.”

The trips were organised by East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership and supported by CeramTec and Colyton Parish Council.
