A SEATON businesswoman has been hit with an enforcement order for failing to replace her shop windows.Sally Denning, owner of Green Dragon Antiques, had been ordered by East Devon District Council to remove her store windows because they were not in keeping with a conservation order. The Herald reported in January that the widow feared she would be financially ruined if she had to change the windows, which cost 3,000.An EDDC spokesman said she was cautioned for failing to comply with an enforcement notice but that planning officers will further review the situation before any action is taken.Mrs Denning previously told the Herald: "It's pretty unfair. If I lose this shop then I'll have nothing but my pension."It's ridiculous, especially with businesses closing. We were saving fuel and electricity with those windows. The old wooden doors had rusted hinges and let water in."She claimed she was given planning permission when she rang the council two years ago.But EDDC say she put up the uPVC shop front and later submitted a retrospective planning application. An EDDC spokesman said the retrospective planning application was refused, as was a later appeal. He said: "The appeal inspector found in favour of the council and so an earlier enforcement notice that had been on hold during the appeal finally came into force in January 2009."The compliance period was extended for two months to April 30, 2009.
