IT was sad to read your headline in last week's Herald (Wednesday, September 24). I have some elderly friends who went to Axminster Carnival and were nearly knocked over by the young people who you mention in your article. It is a shame a small minority should spoil it for all the people out to enjoy the evening and efforts put into the entries and floats, instead we have to put up with such behaviour.Let us deal with the culprits once they are found, whether they are from Axminster, Honiton, Ottery, Exeter or anywhere. This will let others know we will not put up with this sort of goings on, but do it now - don't wait for months.Let the parents do their duty, the police play their part and make the punishment be short and sharp.I am informed this drinking by young people in the Axminster area needs attention, so I hope the police will take all the measures they can to get it stopped.Congratulations to all who take part and make the carnival worthwhile, also the EDDC StreetScene team who had Axminster all cleaned up and looking spick and span by 8.30am on Sunday when they started counting the carnival collection.Another question: how did the young people get the alcohol in the first place?Alderman David ScottEDDCHill RoadLyme Regis
