Members return home with a crop of awards including trophies for top East Devon boy and girl

AXMINSTER young farmers have enjoyed another successful Honiton Show.

The club finished in third place out of the six East Devon YFC groups competing this year.

Two Axminster members also walked away with two trophies apiece.

Current show secretary Vicki Lawrence, was judged top senior East Devon girl and also took the cup trophy for winning most points overall.

She was also commended for the excellent club cubicle which, with the help of Chris Phillips making some top quality woodwork items, she decorated to the theme of “Beauty and The Beast” to earn the runner up spot, just one point behind the winner.

Meanwhile chairman Phil Bird won the trophy for senior East Devon boy, and came first in the animal veterinary and welfare questionnaire.

In the livestock ring James Legg gained a second and fourth place with his sheep and Milly White was victorious in the beef cattle class with her South Devon bull, Stonehayes Conqueror, judged the winner. She also gained a third place with a South Devon Heifer.

In the dairy cattle classes Mark Herrod took a second place with his junior cow in milk and a respectable fourth and sixth with his heifers in the YFC heifer class.

Vicki Lawrence also found time to help her husband Dave to achieve a first and second in the YFC heifer class with her Holstein Godford Baroque Lealla and second with her Jersey Dillys. Lealla also won the overall junior champion.
