Temporary ticket office to be moved after contractors leave it on a disabled parking bay.

DISABLED communters say South West Trains was on the wrong track when it plonked a temporary ticket office on the disabled parking bay at Honiton Railway Station.

They called the Midweek Herald to complain after turning up at the station and failing to find somewhere convenient to park.

The metal structure, which is not currently being used, will now be relocated.

The Midweek Herald asked commuters what they thought of the temporary building yesterday (Tuesday morning).

“It’s a disgrace. It’s not right,” said 64-year-old Peter, who did not wish to reveal his surname. “The space is for disabled people.”

Ryan Drew, 17, from Upottery, told the Midweek Herald: “I don’t think they should have put it there. There is nowhere else disabled people can park.”

And Paul Barren-Thomson, 45, said: “It seems a bit strange that they have put it up on a disabled parking space and not the taxi rank.”

A South West Trains spokesperson said: “We are in the process of carrying out a complete transformation of Honiton station, in conjunction with Devon County Council, which will bring a number of benefits to rail users and will make the station more accessible for all passengers.

“The package of improvements includes new toilets and a new disabled toilet, a new low counter for the ticket office, fully compliant DDA ramps and automatic doors providing easier access to the station, as well as new and improved seating and a new retail unit in the booking hall.”

The spokesperson added: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst this major improvement scheme is being carried out.

“The portable ticket office is currently in the process of being re-located to ensure that it doesn’t inconvenience any of our passengers.”
