Fire crews from Honiton, Axminster and Chard were called to Yarcombe yesterday following a fire which broke out in a fat silo.

The blaze happened shortly before 12.30pm at Riverside Feeds, based at Crawley Farm in Yarcombe.

On arrival crews confirmed smoke and flames were issuing and requested a further two fire appliances to attend.

The engines were sent on from Ilminster and Crewkerne, along with the incident command init from Wiveliscombe.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “The silo tank was destroyed by fire and the large building attached to it was moderately damaged.

“Several tonnes of animal feed was contaminated by fire but all water run off was contained.”

Crews used four breathing apparatus, two compressed air foam jets and one hose reel to deal with the incident.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
