Sisters Marie Bond and Susanne Hoare (nee Butter) return to their former home at the Star Inn, which is to undergo renovation work by new owners J D Wetherspoon.
Two sisters took a trip down memory lane when they returned to their former home at the Star Inn in Honiton.
Marie Bond and Susanne Hoare (nee Butter) were given a tour last week of the historic Grade II listed building, which was known as the Star Hotel when it was run by their parents, Edwin and Edie.
It is the first time in around 30 years that the pair have returned to the pub, which is soon to undergo renovation work by new owners J D Wetherspoon.
The Butter family moved to the pub on December 7, 1955, from Sidmouth, where Edwin and Edie used to run the Conservative Club in Sidmouth.
“It was very nice to go back,” says Marie. “It still feels the same, even if the walls are not where they used to be.”
She added: “I don’t know if it makes me feel older or younger coming back here. I think it makes me feel younger.”
A regular visitor to the pub, during their time there, was Flash the “wildest pony”, who would join customers at the bar for half a pint of bitter.
Flash could often be seen causing mischief in the town with Muffy, the apricot poodle, who could be spotted running around the town when they had escaped.
