Skipper is honoured on his 90th birthday

A 90-YEAR-OLD sailor has been honoured as Seaton's oldest skipper.Frank Scanlon, who regularly sails his boat Postscript - a 27ft Jaguar - was given the tribute at The Axe Yacht Club on Saturday, August 9.Club secretary Brian Lavender presented Mr Scanlon with a cut glass tankard on an engraved base and a birthday gift.He said: "I express admiration on behalf of all the club members for Frank's tremendous achievements, for his youthfulness, ability and the example he has set to other sailors, who are a fraction of his age."Mr Scanlon served in the Merchant Navy and the Royal Navy, surviving when ships on which he was sailing were struck by mines in World War II.He joined the club 17 years ago and makes frequent trips along the south coast and across the channel to France and the Channel Islands.
