A VISUALLY-impaired man from Axminster has launched a new social group in Honiton this week.

David Abbott, 34, has been partially-sighted for two years, as a result of diabetes, and launched a group in Axminster last October.

He said he knew there was no group in Honiton, so decided to launch one to give people in a similar situation, the chance to meet up.

He said: "The aim of the group is for people to get together for a social occasion, have a chat and do different activities such as playing cards and Scrabble.

"Perhaps, later on, we might go on trips as well.

"At the moment, I want to see how it grows and see how many people come along to it."

He said the Axminster group has 12 members, who meet on a fortnightly basis, but the Honiton group will meet monthly.

The group met for the first time on Monday, August 10, in the meeting room of the Jerrard Wing, at Honiton Hospital.

Anyone interested in getting involved can call Mr Abbott on (01297) 639828 or 07593 541137.
